Terms of Service
Last updated: July 28, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Sophia app and website. By creating an account or using Sophia, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Sophia.
Sophia is operated by an independent developer based in the Netherlands. You can contact us at hello@sophia.bytexy.com.
The service
Sophia builds private, AI-generated learning courses from topics, prompts, and sources you provide. Because courses are generated by AI, they may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Course content is provided for general learning only, is not guaranteed to be accurate or complete, and is not professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise). Always verify anything important against an authoritative source.
Your account
You must provide accurate information and keep your account secure. Each person may claim the one-time free-credit grant only once; the grant is tied to a verified email address and duplicate claims are prevented. Abuse — including attempts to obtain free credits fraudulently, circumvent limits, or misuse the service — may result in suspension or termination of your account.
Subscriptions and credits
Sophia runs on credits. A curriculum Preview costs 15 credits, and generating a course costs 10 credits per planned lesson.
- Monthly plans. The Basic, Plus, Pro, and Max plans are auto-renewing monthly subscriptions that grant a set number of credits on each successful billing cycle. Prices, taxes, and currency are shown and collected by the App Store or Google Play for your region.
- Subscription-credit expiry. Credits granted by a subscription expire at the end of the following monthly billing period — you always have the current cycle plus the next to use them. The exact upcoming amounts and dates are shown in the app’s Usage screen.
- Top-up packs. Top-up credit packs never expire. A top-up requires an active paid subscription and must match your current plan tier; it adds credits but does not change or extend your subscription.
- Free credits. Free-grant credits never expire.
- Nature of credits. Credits are for use in Sophia only. They have no cash value, cannot be redeemed for money, cannot be transferred between accounts, and are non-refundable except where required by law.
- Billing and cancellation. All billing is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. You can cancel at any time in your store subscription settings; cancellation stops future renewals but does not change the expiry of credits you already have. Deleting your Sophia account does not cancel a store subscription — cancel it separately in the store.
Generating a course
Generation never starts on its own. It begins only when you explicitly start it, and only when your account has the full quoted number of credits available and no outstanding debt. If your balance is short, generation is blocked until you add enough credits or raise your plan.
- Once a generation starts, it is guaranteed to run to completion for the credits it quoted. Running out of credits mid-generation will never stop or fail it, and any internal cost beyond the quoted credits is absorbed by us — you are never billed more than the quote.
- If a generation fails for a provider, safety, or system reason, any credits reserved but not yet consumed are released back to you automatically. Credits already consumed by lessons that succeeded remain charged, pending support review.
- A course is readable only once every planned lesson is generated successfully. A delivered Preview stays charged even if you discard the draft.
Refunds and reports
If something goes wrong with a generated course, you can submit a report or a refund request from within the app. Refund requests are reviewed by support — they do not change your balance or access automatically.
- If support approves a refund, the credits consumed by that course are restored to your account and your access to the refunded course is revoked.
- Store-level refunds and chargebacks are different: when Apple or Google reverses a purchase, we claw back the value it granted. If those credits were already used, the unrecovered amount becomes account debt, which blocks new generation until it is repaid.
Access and changes
We may revoke access to specific generated content as described above, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the service over time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or abuse the service.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Sophia is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This does not remove any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the service evolves. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Sophia after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
